Hogmanay at Hall House

We are all geared up for the biggest party of the year here at our house! Hogmanay-which most of us know as New Year's Eve-is the only time of year that Ian gets homesick for Scotland.

Ian & the pipers on our lawn>>

He loves Kansas for some crazy reason (he will tell you its because we actually have a SUMMER;) and most of the time he's happier here than he was back home, but no one else in the world understands how to bring in the New Year like Scotland does. They even have TWO official government-recognized days off every year to recover!

So on Hogmanay we throw a party at Hall House complete with family, friends, Celtic jam session and bagpipes. One year we had 5 pipers on the lawn at midnight-and yes, they were louder than the fireworks!!

This year we are making it a bit more special. My beloved grandmother passed away just before Thanksgiving. She was 93 and had lived a long full life but we will miss her!

She always said she didnt want a sad funeral, but a joyful celebration when she went. Last year she was the guest of honor at our New Year celebration so we decided to make this the "Bethel Tucker Memorial Jam Session" and sing a few special songs to celebrate her life as we say goodbye to 2009.

EvenStar Elven Forest Collection is Born

Evenstar (Undómiel in the Elvish tongue) was the name given to Arwen by her grandmother Galadriel..a prophetic name, for she was indeed the Evening Star of her people.

In this new elven forest range, I set the purples & pinks of a twilight sky amidst shimmery starlike crystals and leaves.

These pieces started as a routine custom order, but got out of hand and turned into a whole new jewelry range! I love when that happens!!

So far I only have ear cuff and pendant, but plans are in the works for elven headdress, bracelet, earrings, hair fanices and more..if you would like to order any of those pieces before I list them, just drop me a line.

Mary Travers, The Angel Who Taught Me to Sing

I dont usually cry when famous people die, but I did tonight when I heard that Mary Travers had passed away. Peter Paul and Mary's first album came out the month I was born, and I remember as a little girl hugging up close to the hi-fi speakers to immerse myself in the amazingly rich sounds of "an angel and two cellos playing guitars" and smiling back at the happy lady on the In The Wind album cover while I listened. I remember my dad explaining the importance of event in the photograph on the back cover- Peter Paul & Mary singing Blowin in the Wind at Martin Luther King's famous March on Washington.

Mary taught me to sing harmony with passion and to be proud of my alto voice that I always worried was a little weird. She and my mom were the only two women I remember singing me to sleep at night:). In tribute, here are videos of some of my favorite songs from the early days of Peter Paul and Mary:

Mary said of this song:
If I had to pick one song, my softest spot, it would be "Blowing in the Wind." If you could imagine the March on Washington with Martin Luther King and singing that song in front of a quarter of a million people, black and white, who believed they could make America more generous and compassionate in a nonviolent way, you begin to know how incredible that belief was.

And still is. To sing the line, "How many years can some people exist before they're allowed to be free?" in front of some crummy little building that refuses to admit Jews in 1983, the song elicits the same response now as it did then. It adresses the same questions. "How many deaths will it take till they know that too many people have died?" Sing that line in a prison yard where political prisoners from El Salvador are being kept. Or sing it with Bishop Tu Tu. Same response. Same questions.

Joe Smith, Off The Record, London, 1989, pp. 161-162

Mary's amazing voice ringing out over Sydney Harbor

I love her harmonies soaring on the chorus of this song!!

Probably my very FAVORITE song Peter Paul and Mary ever did...the way it builds is amazing....they could do more with three voices, two guitars and a bass than anyone I ever heard (okay there is a horn section in the back of this, but it wasnt needed, lol)

Finally, a couple of very happy Spiritual Songs to send her home...

We will really miss you Mary, I hope to see you again one day "in that land where Im bound" on that "great day in the morning" :-)

Pirates ~ Get Yer Buccan-Ear Wraps Here

Yes I know thats funny~ until you hear Ian say it about 20 times an hour at a Renaissance Festival: "Arrggh Matey's Roll up and get Yer Buccan Earwraps 'ere" (all in a thick Cornish accent, ala Long John Silver from the Disney version of Treasure Island). I suppose its a fitting way to introduce our new ear decor tho- Ian's version of our Bohemian Wraps made especially for Pirates.

Now those of you who have followed my blog for long know that my hubby has a perfectly delightful accent of his own-being a native of Edinburgh Scotland-but after a Renfest or two, he decided he would have more fun using a made up accent, and thats when he chose the Pirates of Cornwall for his inspiration~ "Aye me lover, this baint be no cheap jewels 'ere, only the best for me 'earties" and suchlike...

The Green Havens Ear Wrap

After spending a fest or two selling our regular Boho wraps to lots of folk in Pirate garb, Ian started to dream up designs with Pirate stories behind them, added a little corny play on words and the Buccan-Ear Wraps were born.

"Did you hear about the deaf Pirate?
He had no BuccanEars..."
(bad joke groan here;).

Our Buccan Ear Wrap collection so far includes The Green Havens, Port & Starboard, The Stormy Seas and in honor of our favorite Caribbean Pirates, The Black Pearl.

They are available and ON SALE now in Thyme2dream ArtFire, as well as in Ian's Etsy Shop, Dragon Rider Circlets

OH- and you get a FREE PIRATE JOKE with every listing;-)

My Bright-Eyed Grandson, Aidan

This is my new cellphone wallpaper:) He's such a happy baby!! Almost 4 months old now!

Victorian Twilight Collection

No, I didnt name these after the Vampire books;-) BUT I do think there is a bit of a goth feel to this colour range and I quite enjoyed creating all the pieces to go with it!

This will be a limited collection- I bought the very last supply of those gorgeous lavender leaves from my supplier, and havent found them anywhere else so when they are gone these designs will be retired...

Im also introducing a new style with this range- the corded choker/necklace as shown here- these are so easy to wear, they adjust from 13-25 inches so can be worn with a variety of necklines and styles...I even had one customer tell me she wears hers as a circlet (with the focal bit hanging on the forehead) with one of her elven costumes:-)

Gypsy Starchild Heads for the Faire

Im SO excited!! Our very first Renaissance Festival is coming up in two weeks and preparations are down to the wire...We will be at the Medieval Fair in Norman, Oklahoma April 3-5. We just got our booth assignment and it looks GREAT. Here's the map- our booth is where the purple heart is...right in the middle of the southwest section of the fair, between the Gypsy Stage and the Gryphon Stage!!:)

An Ear Cuff by Any Other Name

So what exactly IS an ear Cuff, ear vine, Bohemian Wrap??

Whilst getting ready for our first live shows this spring, Ian has been busy making displays and getting our tent ready. In the midst of this, we realised that in order to talk to one another coherently about Thyme2dream ear decor, some of my pieces need better names!

SO~ as of now~ the
Emerald Forest Elven Ear Cuff at left and all cuffs with embellishments that sit on the ear are officially called Ear Vines.

My ever popular simple cuff is still called an ear cuff:) This is one of the first cuff designs I made, and still one of my top sellers.. And YES you can request this one in any Swarovski colour they make~no extra charge! I also have "ear cuffs" with wee gemstone shape beads; hearts, stars, and moons

Then we have the Bohemian Wraps...Ian with his cheeky sense of humour came up with the name for this style a while ago. He is a big Queen fan and thought it would be funny if my ear wraps which are rather boho and gypsy in style were named after Bohemian Rhapsody...I do humor him sometimes;)

So far, these are called 2 in 1 Ear Cuff Dangles..rather a pedantic name, but the idea is there. With this style, the basic ear cuff at top is embellished by the addition of one or more danglie bits. They are "2 in 1" because I make them so they can be worn with or without the dangles..kind of fun!

New Administrative Assistant @ Thyme2dream

I have been saying I really need some help with admin, so Ive finally decided to hire an administrative assistant..here she is working away:

Okay, not really..that would actually be my adorable baby niece for whom the Sophia Collection was named. Looks like shes an admin in waiting tho:)

Sapphire & Ice Elven Forest Collection

Im finally getting my wedding shop,www.thyme2dreamweddings.etsy.com up and running!

The Sapphire & Ice collection was a delight to make..I love the sparkly blues and shimmery white pearls- perfect for weddings that want a spot of colour, dont you think?

Celtic Fiddle Fire

Ive been a fan of acoustic music all my life and have been privileged to hear some amazing fiddle players live from the time I was very young. In my not at all humble opinion, Duncan Chisolm is the absolute best Celtic fiddle player in the world. He plays with the amazing Scottish Folk Rock band Wolfstone, but his solo work is where his playing gets a chance to shine...here is a 2007 performance with Ivan Drever, one of the founders of Wolfstone

That's My Boys!

Im a grandma! My son, Matthew and his new baby boy Aidan Daniel, born this morning at 7:54am. We are all totally chuffed to welcome this delightful 'little fire' into our family..mother & baby are doing well, and dad is recovering, lol
